Description of Children's Classes

Children's Classes
Creative Movement (ages 3-5)
This class teaches children to move and share space with a group. They learn skills such as marching single file, basic steps in a circle, and staying in their own spot. All this is taught to music that inspires and holds small ones interest and imagination. Children will show newly acquired skills to parents and loved ones at final class.

Ballet or Pre-Ballet (ages 6 and up)
Basic ballet steps and movement taught simply to fun and recognizable music. Children learn placement, develop their coordination and gain strength through the discipline of ballet. A short and fun dance will be performed for parents at the end of each semester.

Baton Twirling
Baton twirling is making a comeback. By spinning and flipping that little silver stick, a child will develop an incredible sense of hand/eye coordination that will help them with other sports and forms of movement thru-out life. Baton twirling directly challenges motor skills and improves range of motion for the smallest to the largest joints of the body.

Theater for Teens
A class for acting out. Use your imagination to step outside yourself. Everyone, to some extent, possesses some sort of acting talent. We act and interact all day long. Who hasn’t told a white lie or invented an excuse when we wanted to avoid a situation or person. That’s acting. Use those innate talents to become other characters in scenes from plays, musicals, and movies. We will study and perform scenes from Broadway shows such as A Chorus Line, Westside Story, Rent and many more. Movies range from The Blues Brothers, Erin Brockovich and Chicago to as recent as Million Dollar Baby. Come to this class and learn the tools to use the talents we all have.

Class will consist of rehearsals of scenes and musical numbers from Broadway Musicals as varied as Annie to Oklahoma. Children will learn from professional Broadway dancer, choreographer and teacher Gail Pearson who wants children to know the joy of live theater.
